about
If memory serves, and it doesn't always, this was the first song we wrote. Or at least the first that we thought was OK. It's about a local Nottingham character who went by the name 'Axe-Man'. He wasn't nearly as scary as he looked, or sounded. I think it was also the first one that John Peel played on his radio show. We shat our collective pants when that happened, But in a nice way.
“Cold World” being added to this live version of Pure is such a feast to the ears. The live version of this album brings a new appreciation to this period. Also nice to see Robert Hampson guest appearing throughout on second guitar! I wish he was more present in the mix. Otherwise- a raw and heavy representation of a band that are/were way ahead of their time! mark7411
'A World Lit Only By Fire' is an angry and gloomy motherfucker. From the start, you're being battered with pummeling, gritty low end, piercing dissonance and industrial cold. It paints a dystopian picture in my mind - of bulldozers slowly crawling through a wasteland and people hiding in sheer panic, hungry and desperate for a glimpse of hope. But in 'A World Lit Only By Fire', there is no such thing. Simon Sludge
